Summer in the city is the perfect time to crochet up a silk shawl to wear as the days get shorter as the sun sets over dessert rather than after dinner drinks. When I have a new yarn to play with and a few extra hours to myself, rather than design something completely new I like to reimagine another project in that yarn, like this one, it’s a take on my stand by favorite beach sarong/shawl:
To do this yourself, take a favorite pattern, and give it new life in a new yarn. Start by setting up the skein on the back of a chair, wind that first ball by hand, get a feel for the yarn. Then before you just dive in with Rows 1, take a little time to do a few swatches, go up go down a hook, get the feel right and see how it all comes together. That’s what I did for this version of my Summer Sunset Shawl, the silk pooled so beautifully I added a few puff stitches to compliment the design.
So, before you get too involved in all your holiday projects, take a little time just for you to enjoy the last few long days of Summer.
