Description
We all have those few random skeins of bulky weight yarn that we bought somewhere to bring us joy or as a memento. The sad truth is it can be hard to find a good way to showcase bulky yarn. So, rather than fight it, I gave into the thick and squishy texture of Darn Good Yarn Meringue and came up with this design for an easy to knit cowl with a bit of a twist. Knit flat this V stitch creates the illusion of a much more complicated pattern. So, sit back, relax, and get out the big needles, this will be a fun project.
Cowl:
Materials: Darn Good Yarn Meringue 100% Acrylic Bulky 75yds/100g skein, 2 skeins
Needles: US 15 /10mm 24” circular or straight needles
Notions: Spare needle for three needle bind off, US H or similar crochet hook, 24” worsted weight scrap yarn for provisional cast on, cable needle
Gauge: 8 sts x 7 rows in pattern stitch to create a 4”x4” square when measured on the diagonal
Hat:
Materials: Darn Good Yarn Meringue (100% Acrylic Bulky 75yds per 100g skein) 2 skeins
Needles: US 15 /10mm 24” circular or straight needles
Notions: tapestry needle, cable needle
Gauge: 7.5 sts x 10 rows in stockinette stitch to create a 4”x4” square
Alternative Yarn Suggestions:
This is a good project for yarns that may not be consistent in thickness provided the yarn is the same weight as Meringue.
For a natural alternative choose Cozy Colorworks Bulky or a yarn of similar weight. https://www.cozycolorworks.com/bulky-weight-merino-yarn
Plymouth Yarn Gina Chunky is a good option for a big box store purchase. https://www.plymouthyarn.com/yarn/gina-chunky-item-635
