I know, crocheting a finished object takes more yarn and therefore can cost more than a knit item of similar size and purpose. So, how do we hookers still save a few dollars here and there? Well let’s start a conversation about it. When ever I find a new way to save a few dollars, I’ll add it here. Follow me on Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest so you get notified of updates as they roll on in and do feel free to comment so we can share our tips too!

In the interest of full transparency, I don’t recommend anything I don’t love. I don’t recommend something I have not tried. Sometimes I get a little commission from a link, it does not impact your price at all and helps me keep my web site ad-free which people have told me is important to them so, please if you see something here and decide to buy it, use the link provided.

First up, our tool of the the trade – a humble hook. Here are three options to consider:

  1. Buying hooks one at a time is expensive and buying a set can be scary unless you try first. So, buy one, try it out and if you like it, buy the set. Here’s my favorite set of crochet hooks, it’s from Lykke, it’s a basic set of hooks with plenty of storage in the case for my notions. People always ask me why I bought pink hooks, the reason is quite simple, it’s easier to see the yarn on a pink hook than on most other colors. This is especially important if you like to crochet with dark color yarns.
  2. Hooks not available in a set? Some of the really fancy ones like my favorite ergonomic hooks from Furls , click here to learn more, they are only sold individually. So, I buy these hooks on sale or buy seconds when they have a good deal. Lucky for you, I always track their deals and sales then post about them in Instagram when I find a good deal.
  3. For optimal savings, buy a Tunisian crochet hook set. Why? Well it’s simple, you love to crochet and one day you might want to try your hand at Tunisian crochet so since the hook tips are the same, buy that set instead of a regular set like I did. Here’s the Tunisian set I bought, it is from Lykke and if you’re a knitter, added bonus – the cords are 100% interchangeable with your knitting set and tips so you can buy the tips one at a time if you don’t need a set. I chose the driftwood because like the pink, it’s an easy color to see a wider range of yarn colors upon.
