Description
Marilla means “shining sea” and is the name of a little town outside of Buffalo New York, perfectly suited to this piece which I designed while passing the idle hours between yarn shops I was visiting in New York State one very warm Fall weekend when even looking at wool felt wrong.
Let’s reimagine the concept of a cocoon, it need not be a warm accessory in which to ensconce yourself on a cold day at the shore. It can also be a light weight linen piece that is colorful and visually interesting to top off swimwear and summer outfits. The beauty of this particular piece is the way in which the simple rectangle shape is folded and seamed then worked in the round to complete the front and cuffs. For a little extra sparkle, make one out of your favorite rayon metallic yarn for evenings around the fire pit.
